May 2013 79 miles

Sadly the journal for this walk is missing, as are several others. Probably simply because my filing system is a mess and I had a computer crash some years back that destroyed a lot of data. Lesson learned. Yes indeed, another victim of failed technology, and yet rescued by technology in finding many of the pictures in an old Facebook album of mine.

We decided to do this route as the idea to complete Shoeburyness to Inverness finally came together. However, we knew we still had some pieces to pull together.

This walk was squeezed into a motorcycle tour after a club meet. We took the bikes up to our pals in Ballachulish then took 4 or 5 days (I forget which, but probably 5 as we can be pretty lazy) to walk this route. This is an easy walk and might be a good one to get yourself into LDPs.

The first 20 miles is a straightfoward canal side/loch side walk. The next 30 has a little more variety with forest paths on the hills above Loch Ness. However, the scenery doesn't change much until walking from Drumnadrochit to Inverness when you get up into the hills.

A little gem is the Abriachan Eco Cafe which appears out of nowhere as you climb into the hills North of Drumnadrochit. Another is the Tomnahurich (Hill of the Dead) Cemetery on the Western edge of Inverness. This is a short detour from the way, but worth a visit. The photos for here are taken from a later visit.
